Appealing more to the sensitive types than the Britney Spears fanatics, Natalie Jane Imbruglia captured the gushy hearts of millions in 1998 with the ballad Torn, a song that had resolutely failed to do anything for its original authors Ednaswap. Accompanying multi-platinum album Left Of The Middle offered further proof of Imbruglia's talents, if not an identifiable sound, though 2002's energetic follow-up White Lillies Island went some way towards remedying this.

Imbruglia fell off the UK radar for some time despite conjuring up the 2005 album Counting Down The Days featuring enduring single Shiver. After a stint back in acting, she returned at the end of 2009 with dance-powered single Want penned by her mate Chris Martin and accompanying album Come To Life which sees Imbruglia mixing up her styles once more. Her crystal clear vocals and beautifully carved features have ensured her lasting appeal.
